Pecan (pronounced Peh-can) Pie

Instructions: 
Thaw out a Pet Ritz deep dish pie crust
1 cup of medium pieces of pecans (break, don’t chop)
Place these in the bottom of the unbaked pie crust.
Beat 3 eggs lightly
Add to beaten eggs the following:
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup light corn syrup (pronounced Kay-roe)
1/4 cup melted butter
1/4 tsp. salt
Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes then at 350 degrees for 40 minutes
Test with a knife, should come out clean.

I wanted to flag your pronunciation as offensive, but I realize that, while it is patently incorrect, is probably only offensive to Southerners, particularly Georgia folks, who grow these things for the rest of the world.

 

It's peh-cahn. A pea-can is the the old empty can of Maxwell House with the lid that mom used to keep in the back seat of the family station wagon when you were a kid, because your folks refused to stop on the side of the road. You can't mean that you want to make a pie out of that... do you?
